I'm not really sure what makes a book a 'classic' to begin with, but I think it has to be at least fifty years old and some person or animal has to die at the end.

About This Quote

This quote is very true. For instance, The Diary of Anne Frank is considered a classic. It was written by Anne Frank, who was hidden with her family during the war in Amsterdam. After the war ended, the Franks were captured by the Nazi's and Anne's father died of typhus.

It was written in a diary form so that they wouldn't be found out easily. One day, Anne had to go to the toilet, so she went to her parents bedroom where her diary was kept. Before entering, though, she stopped for a moment to read her last entry.

She wrote about how happy she was that they were still alive and that she hoped they would be able to stay that way. When she entered the room she saw an SS guard standing guard there. He told her to read it now because he wasn't going to come back for it later on.

He walked away and Anne read her last entry. It said "I hope this finds you people well". Then she thought of what she had just wrote about how happy they were still alive and she knew right then that her family would die soon.

That next day they were all taken away and shot. She died at Bergen-Belsen of typhus at the age of 15 years old (she took the pills because of dysentery but didn't want them given to her).
